Mr. Arthur Cummings

Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Mr. Arthur Cummings is Consultant Eye Surgeon at the Wellington Eye Clinic and Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Beacon Hospital where he was also the first head of depertment of Ophthalmology. He has vast experience in LASIK and refractive and cataract surgery and is an internationally renowned expert on customised laser treatments, keratoconus treatments and cataract surgery. Mr. Cummings has been at the Wellington Eye Clinic since 1998 after relocating from South Africa. He has performed more than 30,000 LASIK procedures and 10,000 cataract and other intra-ocular lens procedures. His training includes surgical retina, medical retina, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, cornea, squints, paediatrics and comprehensive ophthalmology. 

Mr. Graeme Rogers

Consultant Glaucoma, Cataract and Retina specialist

Mr Graeme Rogers is a fellowship-trained cataract, glaucoma and retina specialist and treats diseases of the optic nerve and the back of the eye.  After attending high school in Cape Town, South Africa, he studied medicine at the University of Cape Town in 1997.

After graduation, he spent the next eight years specialising in clinical and surgical ophthalmology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital which included a two-year cataract fellowship at Eerste River Hospital in Cape Town. Thereafter, he sub-specialised as Glaucoma fellow in Melbourne, Australia at the prestigious Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in 2014.  This holistic glaucoma training was augmented by a specific role in weekly uveitic glaucoma clinics. 

He subsequently extended his training in the treatment of complex surgical and medical retinal disease as well as uveitis for two years in Dublin at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He has also visited renowned international units in four continents to master further technologically-advanced surgeries in his areas of expertise. He has published 14 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous international conferences.

Mr Rogers is passionate about outreach eye surgery and teaching in indigent communities, having performed and taught thousands of cataract and glaucoma surgeries in more than 30 hospitals in sub-saharan Africa for aid organisations. 

Dr. Tahira Saad

Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr Tahira Saad is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with subspecialty fellowship training in medical retina and ocular inflammatory conditions. She is currently also working as a visiting Consultant at Addenbrookes Hospital as part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK. Spending her childhood and early adolescent years in Brisbane, Australia, she obtained her first medical qualification from the University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. She is passionate about education, both as a learner and as an educator, and after moving from Australia to Ireland in 1998, she became avidly involved in teaching undergraduate and graduate entry medical students at RCSI, which later led her to complete a post graduate qualification in Medical Education. Dr Saad’s initial ophthalmic residency training  began at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin in 2009. Following this, as a Clinical Registrar and Special Lecturer in Ophthalmology at University College Dublin (UCD) for 3consecutive years. She completed her Membership with RCSI in 2013. Clinical service is an important part of Dr Saad’s acumen. To fulfill this she was appointed with initiative roles to provide ophthalmic care in areas of high volume service needs within medical ophthalmology and also treatments for Diabetic Eye Disease within the National Diabetic Screening and Treatment Program. In 2014 to 2015, Dr Saad undertook a Clinical Research Fellowship running clinical trials around Retinal Vein Occlusions and Inherited Retinal Degenerations Project contributing to the development of the All Ireland Inherited Retinal Diseases Registry. Thereafter in 2016 and 2017, she undertook a fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK, a world-class centre of excellence for ophthalmic education and research. Dr Saad is most excited about being part of the Beacon Eye Clinic Rapid Access team that will be at the forefront to deliver acute ophthalmic care in conjunction with the existing refractive surgery, glaucoma, vitreo-retinal, medical retina and uveitis subspeciality services.

Our Clinic

The Beacon Eye Clinic Rapid Access is located in the Beacon Consultants Clinic, Beacon Medical Campus in Sandyford Dublin 18. It can be found just off of the M50 motorway (Junction 13).

Services are delivered by four Consultant Ophthalmologists led by Director of Medicine and world renowned Ophthalmic Surgeon Arthur Cummings. The clinic prides itself on its level of care and patient experience offering priority appointments and short waiting times once inside the clinic.
